Waterfalls and ParrotsMeet the endemic St. Vincent parrot in the preserved rainforest nature trail and visit the Dark View Fall in Richmond. We turn off the main-road in Buccament Bay about 4 miles north of Kingstown on the Leeward coast - still going another 4 miles following the Buccament River through Upper Vermont Village and getting closer and closer to the rainforest - the road getting narrower and windier (if that's a word, but you'll understand) crossing the river a last time we arrive at the nature trail information center and the start of the trail which is a 1 3/4 miles long track through the rainforest. 10,870 acres of the St. Vincent rainforest is preserved as a sanctuary for the endemic St. Vincent parrot to rump and roam and do whatever parrots do. There are about 500 St. Vincent parrots and about 100 of them live in this reserve. There is a good chance to spot one, we do about 80 % of the time, but as a matter of fact there are lots of other interesting birds, animals and plant life here as well.
Prepare for a 2 hour walk and be ready for both sun and rain.
We continue north along the Leeward coast. It is a very scenic ride with villages and perfect little bays with coconuts. We will pass where the picture Pirates of the Caribbean was shot in Wallilabou.
At Dark View Falls in Richmond we cool off in the pool or under the falls. It is a very nice place to be.
Lunch is at Richmond Vale with views of the Volcano and St. Lucia's Gross Piton and Petit Piton when the weather is clear. |
